Re: Does anyone in this tribe teach English in Japan?
Thu, September 13, 2007 - 2:28 AMI don't do it now, but I did it over a decade ago for about 2 years. If you search through the archives of this tribe, you'll find lots of hints about how to do it, and some of the things for which you should watch out.
Do you have any specific questions?

Re: Does anyone in this tribe teach English in Japan?
Sat, December 15, 2007 - 12:06 PMThis is my goal also. I'm in NYC, I have many Japanese study partners from Craigslist, even if I don't need it, I want to speak Japanese. I tried TEFL, they said I need a degree. Don't have one. What are the avenues for this? I'm perusing the internet daily. Limited finances, just got back from Hawaii, where I got the Japanese bug, so to speak. I'm also older, many organizations want younger people for language exchange, etc. That seemed to be another block, so my goal as of late is just to learn the language as well as possible.
I do have a question about Tenrikyo. They offer language classes here in NYC. Does anyone have any personal experience with Tenrikyo. I can't find any "opinions" on the internet, but one Japanese language partner said they were a "cult". Any info on their track record?
Please let me know and Arigato.

Sat, December 15, 2007 - 8:07 PMI don't know how old you are. There are a lot of "older" people teaching English in Japan.
You probably won't get a university job or something equally lucrative but if you're just looking to get over to Japan try applying at a recruiter based near you-ECC or Berlitz (not Nova obviously) or GEOS or AEON -

Sat, December 15, 2007 - 8:19 PMThanks for this info. About the age thing, some org.'s online asked for under 30, University exchange students, I think.
